Capt. Oscar Rodrigues (Publisher of “THE MODERN WORLD SEFARER’S – Shipping Magazine) appealed to the shipping community to provide "concrete support" to ten thousands of flood victims in Kerala, "great calamity".
The inhabitants of Kerala have been harshly struck by intense rains, which have caused flooding and landslides, with heavy loss of human life,
with many people missing and displaced, with extensive damage to crops and homes.
These brothers and sisters" would be supported by "our solidarity, and by concrete support from the shipping community".
The flood has left at least 373 dead and displaced over 12.47 lakh people since 8 August, as per the National Disaster Management Authority.
Over 54.11 lakh people in Kerala have been affected.
Thousands of people have been rendered homeless and many buildings have been destroyed. A number of Immediate Response Teams have been
deployed all around to carry out the rescue work but still the situation is far from 'under control'.
In these difficult times, I am calling out to all the people who can help with relief work fundraising by contributing whatever little they can. While the
government is doing its bit, it is our, common citizens' responsibility to help the authorities in saving precious lives and contain further loss and despair.
With this, I am expecting that many of you kind people will come forward and contribute in this social service. For sending in donations,
you can deposit it online or into bank account.
